President Davis on the Hanover Junction Flyer at 1:30 pm
Jun 21, 2018Ride Time(s):
June 21, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
David Walker has been impersonating Jefferson Davis for over ten years. He has appeared at Civil War Reenactments, CW Roundtables, CW Balls, CW Fashion Shows and any time an event needs a speaker on the events leading up to the war and the war itself. He is on the road 12 months out of the year and loves every minute of it.
He spent 30 years in the elementary grades teaching mainly fifth grade before retiring in 2014. Walker taught in Van Wert, Ohio where he also graduated from High School. He has two college degrees both coming from Wright State University starting with a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Arts in History. He continues to substitute teach since his retirement.
Walker has loved American history since reading his first Abraham Lincoln book as a third grader. He has been reenacting since 1987 starting out as a soldier. Eventually encouraged by Lincoln Portrayer, Fred Priebe from Michigan, he started interpreting Jefferson Davis. He has performed in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, New Mexico and this year he will be in Vicksburg, Mississippi at the Old Court House Museum over July 4th. He is a member of Lee’s Lieutenants, Civil War Historical Impressions, the 30th Indiana, and the 21st Michigan.
For the last eight years Walker has been the official Jefferson Davis at many National Civil War Reenactments. Last several years in November he led the Confederate soldiers and civilians along with a Robert E. Lee impersonator in the Remembrance Day parade held in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Tonight, he will share his life from his birth in Kentucky until his release from Prison at Fort Monroe, Virginia in 1867.
