Multiple award-winning Civil War author and lecturer Scott L. Mingus, Sr. will give a presentation about the Northern Central Railway.  The NCRY between Harrisburg, PA, and Baltimore, MD, was a major supply route for the Union army during the Civil War, as well as a leading commercial and passenger line for the populace of central Pennsylvania. Feeder lines ran from Reading and other towns to Columbia, where a spur connected with the main line at York. Another connecting line ran west from Hanover Junction through Hanover to Gettysburg. Author Scott Mingus will discuss the role of the railroad to the war effort and Confederate efforts to destroy its infrastructure, as well as describing Abraham Lincoln’s visit to Gettysburg on the Northern Central to deliver the Gettysburg Address.

This is a presentation done in the gift shop.

Presentation: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Refreshments and light fare served before and after presentation.

Event is free and for those adults who are 50 and older.
