As an educational 501(c)(3) nonprofit, NCR is the first tourist railroad to offer S.T.E.A.M. learning opportunities.
We provide hands on S.T.E.A.M. learning activities for visitors to enjoy on the train, during a train stop, or at home. And all of the activities are train related.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math are the five subjects of the learning practice that encourage our youth riders to think critically and create an open dialogue.
Meet NCR’s Education Coordinator, Dr. Fredericks, and learn about NCR’s S.T.E.A.M. education program.
Dr. Anthony D. Fredericks is Professor Emeritus of Education at York College of Pennsylvania (York, PA) where he taught both teacher education and writing courses. He is the author of more than 160 books – an eclectic array of both adult non-fiction and children’s books. Some of his most popular adult trade books include Writing Children’s Books: Everything You Need to Know From Story Creation to Getting Published, The Secret Life of Clams: The Mysteries and Magic of Our Favorite Shellfish, and Ace Your First Year Teaching. His award-winning children’s books include Desert Night, Desert Day, A is for Anaconda: A Rainforest Alphabet, and Tall Tall Tree.
“We are beyond excited to launch the S.T.E.A.M. program at NCR. It has been a long-term goal of the organization since the beginning and here we are with the help of Dr. Fredericks. Our mission here at NCR is to enhance the economic engine of York County by delivering a historical, educational, and entertaining experience. The S.T.E.A.M. program is our next phase of expanding our educational offering. We hope to grow this program into virtual learning opportunities along with safe hands activities on the train, and summer camps by 2021.”
