Gift Shop Supervisor
We are seeking an experienced, friendly, energetic, and organized person to supervise our retail gift shop. Prior customer service, retail, sales, and/or hospitality experience is a must. The Gift Shop Supervisor is responsible for creating a positive, friendly, and professional experience for all visitors and guests. This individual will also assist with the planning and execution of train excursions and events.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee the daily operations of the gift shop
- Plan staff and volunteer work schedules according to planned train excursions, ensuring proper staffing during operating hours
- Offer help and provide direct assistance to customers, answering questions and concerns
- Accurately and efficiently complete all sales transactions, provide accurate change, and maintain proper cash and credit controls
- Display all merchandise; continuously rotate stock and improve visual displays
- Process bank deposits from ticket and retail sales receipts
- Ensure cleanliness of shop, bathrooms, and all public areas
- Ensure excellent service to all customers
- Resolve customer issues and foster improved relations
- Respond to phone, in person, and digital inquiries in a timely manner
- Assist in the planning, development, coordination, and execution of train excursions and events
- Promote and sell train excursions and tickets to individuals and groups
- Supervise staff and volunteers in accordance with company policy
- Ensure safety of all individuals in the gift shop; investigate and document incidents; recommend safety and work-related improvements
- Ensure staff and volunteers are professional, competent, friendly, treat all visitors respectfully, and comply with all company policies
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of customer service, retail, sales, and/or hospitality experience
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent sales and customer service skills
- Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
- High level proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft applications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Obtain clearances as required by PA Child Protective Services regulations to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Criminal Background Check, and PA Criminal Background Check
Working Conditions:
- Full-time seasonal position working weekly Wednesday through Sunday during train excursion operating season; daily hours to be determined based on train schedules
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, and navigating stairs all day
- Frequently lift and/or move items that weigh up to 25 pounds
- Regularly required to talk and hear
- Majority of time spent on site, occasional travel in local area
