1472 Inspection – The Rebuild of Steam Locomotive No. 17
Target Completion: Fall 2025
In order to meet our organizational mission and goals NCR must keep our most valuable piece of rolling stock, the #17 William H. Simpson steam engine on the rails and ensure the engine is fully compliant with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations. No. 17 is due for the mandatory FRA 1472 rebuild and inspection because after 11 years of service the engine has reached the 1472 days of service benchmark. The rebuild process is expected to take 6-12 months.


Bridge & Track Work along the NCR line - $2,800,000
NCR aims to replace 1,000 ties a year, at $150 a tie. Bridge inspections also cost around $25,000 a year too! Safety is a priority for NCR.

Cosmetic Restoration of Retired PPR GP9 6076 - $20,100
The NCR staff has been working to restore our “workhorse” to its original PPR beauty.
Target Completion: Spring 2026
The projects consist of different components of bodywork, including fabrication of two equipment doors, rust removal, dent repair, and priming. It also includes the final paint work and lettering of the equipment. During this time the engine will be in use as part of NCR’s rolling stock.
